This trip takes you from the Capital of Laos, Vientiane through the thousands of miniature Buddha Southern Laos is a real treat; pass through beautiful countryside

Day 1: Arrival Vientiane – Hotel

On arrival at Vientiane Wattai airport, you will meet and transfer to the hotel, check into the hotel free at your leisure.

Day 2: Vientiane – City Tour – Buddha Park

After your breakfast, we will start with the thousands of miniature Buddhas at Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in the city, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo which used to house the Emerald Buddha now in Bangkok, Thailand. We’ll then take a short ride across the city to see the National symbol of Laos which is the ‘That Luang Stupa ‘and stop at the imposing Patuxay Monument Laos Arch de Triumph a reminder of the French Colonial period.

After lunch, we drive to Buddha Park also known as Xieng Khuan a sculpture park located about 27 km southeast of Vientiane in a meadow by the Mekong River. The statues are made of cement and are ornate and sometimes bizarre although admired for the artwork. Return back to the center in Vientiane on the way we also stopped at the Beer Lao factory.

Day 3: Vientiane – Pakse – Wat Phou Champasak – Don Khong

After early breakfast we transfer to Wattai Airport for the flight to Pakse, on arrive Pakse Airport we head to the south by road to the town of Ban Muang from here cross the river to the charming colonial town of Champasak before continuing another 11km to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Wat Phou.

Wat Phou dates back to the 6th Century and was the first temple to be built by the Khmer Empire. Wat Phu was the center of the Khmer Kingdom before their capital was moved to Angkor. It was originally built as a Hindu temple before being converted into a Buddhist temple in later centuries. After exploring Wat Phou return to the town of Champasak where you can have lunch overlooking the Mekong River. After visiting Wat Phou transfer to the largest of the 4000 islands Don Khong where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Don Khng – Don Khone

Enjoy a boat ride through the 4000 Islands passing Don Som and Don Det. The old railway line starts at Don Det and continues over the French railway bridge to Don Khone and all the way to Han Khone overlooking Cambodia. The idea was to have a trade route along the Mekong so the Railway line was built to bypass the waterfalls along the Mekong fault line. Stop at Don Khone where you will spend the night in a bungalow overlooking the Mekong and the French Bridge.

After checking into your Bungalow continue to visit the waterfall by bicycle or by tuk-tuk and visit Liphi waterfall before heading to the southern tip of Don Khone known as Hang Khone here you will take a boat to see the Irrawaddy dolphins. We return to Bungalow free at your leisure.

Day 5: Don Khone – Bolaven Highlight – Pakse

After breakfast we depart from Don Khone we cross to mainland Ban Nakasang, and we continue to drive to the south of the Mekong's largest waterfall, Khon Phapheng. This is part of the Mekong fault line which stretches across the entire Mekong River and has been formed by the river eroding the softer rock downstream.

After the waterfall, we drive to the Bolaven area of Volcanic Rock makes for suburb tea and coffee plantations which thrive on the rich soil and the cooler climate. Visit tea and coffee plantations and learn about their processing before carrying on to Tad Fane Waterfall.

Tad Fane waterfall sits at an elevation of 1100m and has two stunning cascades dropping 120m off the edge of the plateau. A further 2km from Tad Fane which makes for a pleasant walk or drive through the coffee plantations is Tad Yuang Waterfall which makes a great spot for a swim or a photo. Head back across the plateau to see Tad Paxuam where you can learn about the different ethnic tribes that live on the plateau. Return to Pakse (~3 – 4 hours by road 260 km)

Day 6: Pakse – Departure

After breakfast free at your leisure until time for transfer to Pakse airport for your awarded flight
