This tour is the best way to see the Bolaven Plateau similar to the one-day tour but at a relaxed pace, spending one night at the stunning Tad Lo waterfall gives you more time to enjoy the scenery and take in the Elephants bathing in the morning
Day 1: Pakse – Bolaven Plateau – Tad Lo Waterfall
Departing Pakse at 8 am from the Xplore-Asia office or from your hotel on request this tour takes in the circuit of the Bolaven Plateau. As soon as you leave Pakse the road climbs in elevation as you ascend onto the Plateau. The area of Volcanic Rock makes for suburb tea and coffee plantations which thrive on the rich soil and the cooler climate. Visit tea and coffee plantations and learn about their processing before carrying on to Tad Fane Waterfall.
Tad Fane waterfall sits at an elevation of 1100m and has two stunning cascades dropping 120m off the edge of the plateau. A further 2km from Tad Fane is Tad Yuang waterfall which makes for a pleasant walk through the coffee plantations to arrive there or alternatively, it is a 10-minute drive along the main road. Tad Yuang makes a great spot for a picnic lunch and a swim.
Continuing north along the Plateau drive past Paksong and into Salavan Province, your next stop is the village of Kok Pung Thai here you can learn about this ethnic group and their tradition of building their coffins before they die. Continue north to Tad Lo arriving early afternoon. Spend the rest of the afternoon by the waterfall and at leisure enjoying the tranquillity of the area.
Accommodation: Tad Lo Lodge (Standard Room)
Day 2: Tad Lo – Easy Trek – Pakse
Spend the morning free to relax by the waterfall and watch the elephants being bathed, after breakfast we take a short walk along the stream to a Katu Ethnic Village where you can experience and see firsthand their culture and traditions. Take the gentle walk back to the transport for the trip and return to Pakse. On the way we also stopped at the village of Lao Ngam, home of the Katu people, here they have a strong tradition of silk weaving and have many beautiful garments on display and for sale made by the local villagers.
It's now time to head back to Pakse but not before seeing one last waterfall. Tad Paxuam is a distinctive circular-shaped waterfall flowing into a deep pool that is featured on many postcards of Laos. (~4 – 5 hours trekking 10 km)
