Trekking and homestays are a great way to experience rural Laos. Here, we offer a two-day overnight trip in Southern Laos, along with many other activities throughout the country.
Day 1: Tad Lo – Ban Sanone – Ban Khanuan
After breakfast, we transfer to Tad Lo and then take a 30-minute Songthaew ride to Ban Sanone. Upon arrival at Ban Sanone, we take a coffee break before starting the trek.
We begin trekking from Ban Sanone with local village guides, following a trail along the escarpment. We arrive at Tad Mai Hia and descend along the streamside to Tad Hai. This area has been protected as a fish nursery to support sustainable fisheries in other parts of the stream. We then continue to Tad Malai, where we enjoy views from the top of the waterfall. The trail passes the waterfall and a local village, where we stop for a picnic lunch before continuing to Ban Khanuan.
Upon arrival, the village hosts a Baci ceremony to welcome you to stay with a local family. (~5–6 hours trekking, 18 km)
Accommodation: Homestay
Day 2: Ban Khanuan – Tad Lo
Start the day with a walk through paddy fields to Phou Tak Khao, followed by the challenging “Destiny Trail.” Pass by Tham Kao Hu (Nine-Hole Cave) and continue to Ton Mai Soksata (Destiny Tree). Stop for a picnic lunch at Phou Tak Khao.
Continue walking to Ban Thongkharm and visit Tham Seua (Tiger Cave). Arrive at a viewpoint overlooking the Tad Lo area and Phou Set Mountain. After enjoying the views, return to Ban Sanone and take a Songthaew back to Tad Lo. (~5–6 hours trekking, 18 km)
