Take a long-tail boat journey to the town of Champasak, the ride takes a leisurely 1-hour boat ride downstream, arriving at the pier in Champasak. You have the option of transferring or going by bike to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou, located just 11 km away from Champasak.
Wat Phou dates back to the 6th Century and was the first temple to be built by the Khmer Empire. Wat Phou was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom before their capital was moved to Angkor. It was originally built as a Hindu temple before being converted into a Buddhist temple in later centuries.
After leisurely exploring Wat Phou, we have lunch at a local restaurant and return to Champasak. Stop to visit Wat Muang Kang and Wat Luang, the old temple in Champasak, before cycling or transferring back by road to Pakse along the Mekong (Boat Trip 1h30 & Ride 55 km). For those cycling, we generally don't provide a support vehicle for this short trip, unless specifically requested.
