Luang Prabang, Laos

LuangPrabang is situated in the centre of northern Laos, it was founded as the first Lao Kingdom in the 14th century by King Fa Ngum when Laos was known as Lane Xang, the land of a million elephants. It remained the capital of Lanexang until 1565 when the capital was moved to Vientiane. LuangPrabang lies in a valley at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers surrounded by natural beauty, offering stunning landscapes and lots of activities and sights to see. It was the royal capital of the country until 1975 and is also known for its many Buddhist temples, including the gilded Wat Xieng Thong, dating to the 16th century, and Wat Mai, once the residence of the head of Laotian Buddhism.LuangPrabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this UNESCO world heritage town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights makes it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos.
